Ipswich Borough Council has secured funding to support a summer programme of free activities for young people in August. The Community Safety Partnership has committed £9,000 to fund events, activities, and safe spaces during the school summer holiday for young people in Ipswich.
Community groups and organisations interested in participating can apply for grants up to £1,000. Activities should be in Ipswich, focus on diverting youth from gangs and violence, and be empowering and aspirational. Applications close on 29th April.
More information and guidance for groups within the voluntary, community, and social enterprise sector to put forward applications for taking part in the scheme is available at: www.ipswich.gov.uk/content/diversionary-activities-funding
Successful grant recipients will be required to commit to one or two events as part of an activity programme at the Cornhill in Ipswich town centre on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during August, alongside their other activities.
Last year, over 350 young people benefited from activities including mentoring, music, gaming tournaments, and more. DanceEast, a funded organisation from last year, used the funds to launch a bursary programme, providing free places for 36 children and young people in their classes.
Kate Price, Assistant Director Communities at Ipswich Borough Council, expresses pride in continuing the programme, aiming to provide education, inspiration, and a sense of belonging while reducing anti-social behaviour.
